Fake cruise ship doctor arrested

BERLIN — A man posing as a doctor on an AIDA cruise ship has been arrested in Berlin. As reported in the Daily Mail, the unidentified Berliner is said to have treated hundreds of patients and has worked aboard cruise ships for the past five years while not having the relevant license or qualifications to practice.

It is believed he is a trained nurse and reports suggest he “claimed to be a specialist in anesthesia and intensive care,” and had also been employed by other cruise companies before he went to work for AIDA Cruises in 2014.

AIDA Cruises Vice President of Communication Hansjorg Kunze released a statement to the Daily Mail: “End of November 2015, after receiving a hint, AIDA Cruises immediately contacted the police in Berlin. Only then we learned that investigations in this case have been going on for months already. AIDA Cruises immediately suspended the man and actively cooperated with the authorities. Thanks to our support the suspect was arrested on German ground on Friday morning, Dec. 4, 2015. As a matter of course we are verifying the CVs of our applicants thoroughly.”

The case is currently under investigation.
